Design Technology
Children are given the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in the areas of food, textiles, mechanisms and structures during their time at Cambridge.
In EYFS, the children gain an understanding of the world around them by asking questions about how things work and given opportunities to solve problems. They are given the opportunities to use a variety of construction materials, developing their making in a safe manner.
In Key Stages 1 and 2, the children complete
food technology every year to develop their skills and are given an opportunity
to taste and make a range of foods. In textiles, children will learn different
ways of joining material and learn different stitches to produce textile
products including puppets, 3D toys and stockings. During topics focusing on
structures and mechanism the children will look at how existing products work
and develop skills in using a range of tools and materials to produce their own
products to fulfil a design task, developing an understanding of how structures
can be strengthen and how mechanisms move.
