Year 6

Welcome to the Y6 class page.

The class is taught by Mr Banks and our teaching assistants are Mrs Gunson, Miss McPoland, Mrs Robertson, Mr Hartlebury and Mrs Brown, who work to support Year 6 pupils academically and pastorally.

We are an ambitious, creative and considerate class who take pride in the wonderful work we produce.

Pupils in Y6 each have duties to carry out around school and act as independent and responsible role models. Each summer pupils vote for our Head Girl and Head Boy who take a key role throughout the school year.

Curriculum

Children within the class are encouraged to speak openly and honestly about their work as they move towards a more independent and responsible approach to their academic and social learning, in readiness for secondary school.

In Year 6 pupils work towards the end of Key Stage 2 national expectations through a broad curriculum. Maths is taught daily using White Rose Maths and in English lessons, children use language-rich themes that enhance their vocabulary, grammar and punctuation skills. Geography, History, Science and DT are taught through the CUSP approach, allowing children to build on their existing knowledge and skills before applying their new learning and consolidating it regularly.

Pupils in 6B are encouraged to work independently and in groups, developing teamwork and individual skills. Weekly PSHE lessons are developed using MyHappyMind which allows a deeper understanding of how the brain works and 1Decision builds on this through various scenarios that children may encounter now and in their future. In PE, pupils have continued to develop their physical, social and tactical skills in a range of sports. The class also participate in Ukelele lessons and have developed a greater understanding of the world through our weekly RE lessons which include the themes of Christianity, Hinduism and Islamic arts, whilst French lessons are focused on food, weather and countries.

Reminders

Children are encouraged to read, use their TT Rockstars account and practise their spellings on Spelling Shed regularly at home.

P.E kits required on Thursdays and Fridays.

Homework is set on a Friday and returned no later than Wednesday the following week.
