PE

At Cambridge Primary we are fortunate enough to have a large field and two spacious playground areas this enables us to offer a wide variety of sports and activities during the school year.

At Cambridge Primary School, our vision is to encourage all children to engage in a healthy lifestyle and understand the importance of physical activity, enabling them to make informed choices throughout their life.

We aim to offer a high quality and well-balanced PE curriculum, which enhances the children’s physical literacy, allows clear progression and inspires pupils to become more active. Through all aspects of the curriculum, children are encouraged to improve their own performance, so gaining a sense of achievement and self-confidence. An emphasis on children’s wellbeing both physically and mentally is adopted, ensuring that children’s enjoyment and attitude towards lessons is a key indicator of assessment and achievement. Through Physical Education, the children are given opportunities to practice and display our school values such as respect, fairness, co-operation and responsibility.

Our PE curriculum map is developed using the GetSet4PE scheme and through this, children gain the opportunity to gradually develop skills across all aspects of PE. This includes: Games, Gymnastics, Dance, Swimming, Outdoor Adventurous Activities and Athletics. The base of our curriculum is to support children in developing Fundamental Movement Skills and alongside PE, children are encouraged to use these skills throughout the school day and beyond.

The importance of healthy living is shared across the curriculum and the school participate in a range of local and national health initiatives as well as encouraging outdoor activities and visits. We recognise that for some children, there are barriers to overcome in being more active and these needs are met by providing a wide range of activities and facilities.

The school encourages positive participation in both competitive and non-competitive PE and extra-curricular sports, enabling the development of confidence, self-motivation and self-esteem within our pupils. Through the Furness School Games, our children are invited to attend a broad range of festivals and tournaments at intra and inter school level, working as both individuals and as a team.
